 American Heart Association and White Memorial Medical Center Join Forces to Stop America’s No. 1 Killer in Latinos - Heart Disease


$50,000 sponsorship will help boost and raise awareness of AHA’s

Go Red Por Tu Corazón campaign


(LOS ANGELES)- The American Heart Association (AHA) is pleased to announce White Memorial Medical Center as their newest sponsor of the Go Red Por Tu Corazón campaign in Los Angeles. White Memorial will provide a $50,000 sponsorship to help further the mission of the AHA and Go Red Por Tu Corazon’s goal of empowering Latinas to make heart healthy choices for themselves and their families.

“We are making this significant investment in our community because we want to make a difference in heart health education. Our collaboration with the American Heart Association provides us the framework to take our heart awareness outreach to the next level. Working together, we will take major steps toward education and fighting heart disease, as well as improving the quality of life in Los Angeles,” says White Memorial President and CEO Beth Zachary.


White Memorial will support and sponsor the events listed below throughout 2012 in an effort to inspire Latina women to take charge of their heart health and to uncover the truth about women’s No. 1 killer and make ending it a reality. With White Memorial’s support, hundreds of Latinas in Los Angeles will be reached with lifesaving messages. Martha Preciado, MD, a cardiologist at White Memorial Medical Center who currently teaches in their residency program, will be involved in the events below and serve as the spokesperson for White Memorial’s involvement in the Go Red Por Tu Corazón campaign. A graduate of UCLA School of Medicine, Dr. Preciado has been on the staff of White Memorial for over two decades.

Latina Heart Health Conference-February 23, 2012

The American Heart Association will host the fourth annual Latina Heart Health Conference in Los Angeles on February 23. The event is designed to educate approximately 150 Latinas about heart health

and the impact it can have on them and their families. The free event will be conducted in Spanish. Attendees will learn about eating healthier, reducing risk factors and managing stress.


Go Red For Women Luncheon-April 25

The Go Red For Women Luncheon is a half-day event that will bring hundreds of Angelenos together to learn about heart disease and how to live heart-healthy. White Memorial will customize a 45-minute health educational breakout session in Spanish for approximately 200 Go Red Por Tu Corazón
participants. The Luncheon will feature a morning of educational breakout sessions, a health exhibition that will offer health screenings, and a heart-healthy lunch and inspirational program.


The Heart and Stroke Ambassador Event- May 2012

The American Heart Association and White Memorial will co-host the Heart and Stroke Ambassador event to celebrate Stroke Awareness Month.  The program will include a presentation by health professionals on heart disease and stroke and how it impacts the Latino community.  Ambassadors will be asked to take a leadership role in disseminating lifesaving information within their personal networks and community.  White Memorial will also be supporting grassroots educational workshops in the summer and fall, which will be led by a community health educator in a classroom setting. Attendees will learn about heart disease and stroke risk factors, prevention, warning signs and the importance of calling 911 in a health emergency.
