Reference Services
The librarians provide answers to reference questions (where to find a particular book, a hospital address, a definition, etc.) using the library collection and/or the Internet. Advice is also given regarding filing systems, end user computer searching, preparing manuscripts for publication, etc. The librarians also provide library members up-to-date citations and abstracts on medical, nursing, and allied health topics depending on their search requests.
Requests for literature searches are accepted in person, on the phone, by fax, or email. All literature searches are done on MEDLINE® (the National Library of Medicine’s bibliographic database covering the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and the preclinical sciences), the CINAHL® database via Ebscohost, and on the Internet.
