Newsletter Spring 2010 Letter from the Chairman

Dear Partners,

In late February, the hospital opened its long-awaited Ambulatory Surgery Center, made possible in part by donations from families, businesses and foundations who share the Foundation’s mission: to create and sustain philanthropic relationships. With our donors as partners, we are committed to supporting programs and services provided by WMMC that improve and enhance the quality of life.

Like the Diagnostic Imaging Center dedicated last year, the Ambulatory Surgery Center is reserved solely for outpatients. The increase in capacity will significantly reduce wait times for both inpatients and outpatients. This means better service, happier patients and staff, and more efficient use of resources.

As I write this, workers are putting the finishing touches on a new hospital entrance, main lobby, hospital chapel meditation garden. The completion of these projects signals the completion of a campus redevelopment project nearly a decade in the planning. We could not be nearing the finish line without the generosity of many people—you among them.

White Memorial is committed to investing our community, to maintaining the finest facilities in Greater Los Angeles; to developing programs responsive to community needs, and focusing on clinical excellence in the delivery of patient care and medical training. Fulfilling that commitment requires partners, and I am gratified by your willingness to join with us as partners.

In this environment of economic uncertainty, I am encouraged and sometimes amazed at the hospital’s resolve to overcome challenges to its progress. As the Chair of the Foundation, serving as a vocal advocate and the senior volunteer fund raiser, I am continually excited by the accomplishments of this amazing place and its staff.

In my previous letter, I noted that there is always “continued opportunity for investment.” It is my hope that you will renew your past investment in White Memorial Medical Center and on behalf of the people who will benefit, I thank you for your constant good will and generosity.

Sincerely,

George A. Ramirez
